After you arrive on this mysterious island full of ruins, you’re tasked with trying to get things back up and running. Part of this involved locating all the missing power crystals and restoring the three main ruins to working condition.
Once this has been done, the next part of the main story involves some more direct contact with the mysterious hologram character TOPHAT. Find out what you’ll need to do to obtain and complete this quest.
Prerequisites For ‘A Challenging Rescue’ Quest
In order to get this quest, you’ll need to complete the following:
Complete the ‘Power Up The Gate’ quest.
Accept the ‘Enraging Ruins‘ quest.
Have Retsuko at friendship level 11.
Complete the ‘Fire Up The Volcano‘ quest.
Meet TOPHAT At The Icy Peak Entrance
If you don’t have the Icy Peak Entrance fast-travel waypoint unlocked, you’ll want to have an upgraded stamina wheel. If you don’t have an upgraded stamina wheel, you might want to have a Stamina Recharge Potion if you’re a high enough friendship level with Kuromi to create your own potions.
You’ll find the Icy Peak Entrance located in Gemstone Mountain. It’s at the northeast section. On the map you’ll see train tracks. You’ll need to climb up the side of the mountain near the northeast mining entrance to find the waypoint.
You may be able to see a purple tophat marker on your map to help you locate the area. Once you arrive, TOPHAT will be waiting for you. Talk to TOPHAT to begin the quest.
| You won’t be able to climb up mountain areas while wind is blowing on Icy Peaks. You’ll see a green arrow indicator beneath your mini-map. If it’s showing, you can’t climb. You’ll have short windows of opportunity as you progress, so you’ll probably want to use your jump ability to cover distance more quickly. |
Speak to TOPHAT once you climb up to the ledge where he awaits. Take advantage of resting platforms as you follow TOPHAT up the mountain.
Pathways will be marked with either climbing rock paths, or wooden plank paths. TOPHAT will wait for you at intervals to allow you to catch up. Talk to TOPHAT whenever you see him with a blue exclamation point above his head to progress the quest.
Check for treasure chests as you travel, and you’ll also discover a waypoint just when you reach the mountain’s summit. It’ll be called “Icy Peak”.
When you reach the summit you’ll encounter Big Challenges, but in a rather…unfortunate state. Talk to TOPHAT for the next steps.
This will complete the quest, and you’ll now have access to Icy Peak. You’ll pass some caves that you can explore as you do the quest, or at a later time.
