The Hello Kitty Island Adventure game is full of mysterious structures that are dotted throughout the islands. As you explore, you’re tasked with restoring some structures, and solving puzzles in others.
Once you arrive at Mount Hothead, Retsuko is pacing outside one of the ruins. Her luggage is inside, and she needs your help to retrieve it.
Prerequisites For The Enraging Ruins Quest
There are a few things you’ll need to do before you can receive this quest:
- Complete the ‘Power Up The Gate’ quest.
- Have access to Mount Hothead.
- Reach friendship level 7 with Retsuko.
Find The Red Power Crystals
In order to venture into the volcano to help Retsuko, you’ll need to locate the three red power crystals. One is near the ruins entrance. Before you officially begin the quest it will be hidden by a large boulder with a crack in it, but it won’t allow you to use your pickaxe to break it.
Once you have this quest, the boulder will automatically disappear, allowing you to obtain the power crystal. Use the sensor device you obtained during the ‘Power Up The Gate’ quest to help you locate the other power crystals.
One of the red power crystals is at the coastline area of Mount Hothead. It’ll be to the left of house 3 in the Mount Hothead region.
The last red power crystal is located near house 2 on Mount Hothead. It’s just across from the Hot Springs fast-travel waypoint.
| Once you’ve found all the power crystals on the island for each set of ruins, your crystal sensor device will disappear. This is intended, since you’ll no longer need the crystal sensor. |
Set The Red Power Crystals In The Ruins
Once you’ve collected a total of 3 Red Power Crystals, you’ll be able to interact with the ruins. Walk up the stairs to the door, and when you’re close enough you’ll see a Red Power Crystal symbol in the lower right portion of your screen.
Tap or select the Red Power Crystal symbol to place all the crystals in the proper place. After a short interaction, you’ll be able to enter the ruins to locate Retsuko’s missing items.
Rotating Circle Puzzle For First Doorway
You’ll want to proceed straight ahead for the quest, but there’s also an unlocked doorway off to the right side. Through there, you’ll use the hot air vents and climbing grates to find 2 treasure chests. It’s not required for the quest, and you can come back to that later if you prefer.
Straight ahead will be a puzzle in front of a closed door. You’ll need to solve the puzzle to continue.
The white squares underneath each circle are the buttons which will rotate the circles. The door will automatically open once you have solved the puzzle.
Circle Puzzle Solution:
To solve the first puzzle, turn both sets of circles so the purple sides are facing each other. Use the broken circle at the bottom left to see how all the circles should look.
Colored Crystal Puzzle In Second Room
The second puzzle will present you with sets of 4 colored crystals. There will be 2 sets of the crystals. One set is on the left side of the ruins pathway, and one is on the right side.
You’ll be able to interact with only one set of crystals to solve the puzzle. Once again, as soon as you’ve properly solved the puzzle the door will automatically open.
Color-Coded Crystal Puzzle Solution:
The second puzzle can be solved by interacting with each crystal on the left stairway side to match the color pattern of the crystals on the right-side stairway.
From left to right the pattern should be yellow, purple, pink, blue.
You’ll arrive outside on the second level of the ruins. There’s a blue exclamation point to help you locate Retsuko’s suitcase.
Use the gift function to deliver the suitcase to Retsuko. Sadly, the contents are missing, so you’ll need to find her clothes in the immediate area. There will also be blue exclamation points to help you locate them.
Once you’ve found the clothing, return to Retsuko and hand them over with the gift function. You’ll then need to help find a second suitcase. The doorway to use for continuing the search is on the same level, and will have a blue exclamation point in it to direct you.
Golden Block Puzzle Room
The next puzzle area will take a bit more work to solve. You’ll need to use the gold blocks to make your way through the area.
Gold Block Puzzle Solution:
Place the gold block where the circle with the gold star in it is facing. Use the stairs to reach the second floor and grab the gold block.
Place it in the lower right corner of the blue tiles with arrows on them. This should raise the set of stairs to reach the third floor.
On the third floor, place the gold block in the left-most position to raise the staircase to the fourth floor. On the fourth floor, place the gold block on the center purple tile.
The door will already be open when you reach the fifth floor, so you can go right through without a hitch.
Once you navigate the puzzle room, you’ll go through a doorway that will lead you outside again. You may want to explore a bit since there may be treasure chests and new bugs to capture.
The next doorway to enter will be marked with a blue exclamation point. Once you head through the door you should have a room with various signposts. The signposts will have stacked pictures of things like hearts and stars.
Signpost Puzzle Room
There are a total of three doors to explore in this room. The recommended door to unlock is the ‘X’ door. It’s marked with the blue exclamation point and will make it easier to complete the ‘Enraging Ruins’ quest.
You can rotate the signposts using the white buttons. All three doors in this area can be unlocked. Each doorway will offer a different puzzle.
Signpost Puzzle Room Solution
Rotate the signposts so that each symbol is facing the proper door. For example the heart symbol should point toward the door with the heart symbol above it.
Once you have properly rotated all three signposts, all the doors should open for you.
Signpost ‘X’ Door Puzzle Room
If you go through the X doorway, you’ll encounter a large pillar rising up out of the pool of lava. There are climbing panels set into the pillar to allow you to progress.
There’s also a door to the left. That door will bring you to yet another puzzle room. If you decide to try that room, you’ll interact with buttons and crystals to make your way across the room and collect treasure.
That optional room is a bit complicated. If you have trouble with it, we’d recommend finding a video for an easier walkthrough of that particular room. Be prepared for a lot of backtracking within the room to access all the areas.
Climbing Puzzle X Room Solution
Follow the climbing panels up and to the left. There are ledges you can use to get to the next set of climbing panels. Climb upward until you encounter a hallway and ramp in the center of the pillar.
Take the ramp, even though it’s angled downward. It will bring you to the next set of climbing panels that will help you get to the top. You can take the exit at the top.
Signpost Heart Door Puzzle Room (Right-Side Doorway)
If you’re able to unlock the room with the heart above the door, you can proceed into that room. It should be the doorway on the right side.
You’ll see lava, as well as a lava hot air vent. On the second story, you’ll also need to content with lava spouts.
Lava Tile Puzzle Solution
You’ll need to jump across the stone tiles to the hot air vent. Take the hot air vent up to the second story.
Timing is important since you’ll need to avoid the lava spouts. It’s easiest to go from right to left across the nearest stone tiles. You can then exit the room once you reach the doorway.
If you fall into the lava, it will send you back to the beginning of the lava puzzle. You’ll need to get back to the second story all over again.
Signpost Star Door Puzzle Room (Left-Side Doorway)
If you go through the door on the left, which has a glowing star above the doorway, you’ll encounter another puzzle room. This one has a grid of stars and x’s.
You’ll use the white buttons to flip the circles between either stars or x’s. You can adjust columns and rows.
Star Room Puzzle Solution
Flip the tiles so they’re showing all stars. There may be other solutions as well, but turning all the tiles to stars is the solution that worked for us.
Find Retsuko’s Second Suitcase And Microphone
Once you’ve gotten through one of the doors (any door in the signpost room should work), you should be able to find Retsuko’s second suitcase and microphone. Then you’ll need to go back into the ruins to search for her laptop.
If the door isn’t marked, you’ll end up having to navigate through one of the other puzzle rooms to find another exit, or try to go back through the door you came from.
Floor Tile Sequence Puzzle Room
You may encounter a room with multiple colorful tiles arranged in a square on the floor. This room gives you hints to solve the puzzle.
Once you solve the puzzle, the door to the next area will open. You may not encounter this puzzle if you take the recommended ‘X’ path. You can always come back later, however, and attempt the puzzle.
Floor Tile Sequence Puzzle Solution
Begin by stepping on the blue start arrow on the right side of the screen.
Next, step only on tiles in the following color patterns as you make your way toward the door.
- Yellow, green, purple.
- Yellow, green purple.
- Yellow, green, purple.
- Yellow, green.
- Step on the blue exit arrow.
If you make a mistake, you can step on the blue beginning arrow to reset the puzzle.
Memory Doorway Puzzle Room
You’ll eventually come to a doorway with a set of 4 symbols above it. On the floor in front of the doorway are four buttons that match the symbols over the door.
Once you solve this puzzle, the door will open so you can continue.
Memory Puzzle Solution
Watch the order in which each symbol lights up. Press the corresponding buttons in the same order.
If you make a mistake, it will play another sequence. It won’t necessarily be the same one, so you’ll have to pay attention each time you try.
Find Retsuko’s Laptop
Luckily, you don’t need to search the puzzle rooms for the laptop, but you do need to progress to the top of the ruins. The Memory Door Puzzle Room should be just before the top of the ruins.
Once you’ve found the laptop, hand it over to Retsuko with the gift function again and then head back into the volcano through the other doorway. Hitch a ride in a minecart by interacting with the nearby lever.
Talk to Retsuko, then follow Chococat out of the volcano exit. Talk to Chococat once you’ve left the volcano. The Engraging Ruins quest is now complete.
