There’s nothing quite like exploring the Royal Highlands on your Dawnspur (Horse) mount in Palia. It’s a whole new way to experience the sweeping landscape.
Once you’ve found your first Dawnspur, you’ll probably want more. Find out how you can unlock your first Dawnspur and the ability to get more.
Prerequisites To Get Dawnspurs

Before you can get Dawnspurs to raise and breed, you’ll need to complete the following first:
- Complete the ‘Ranching 101‘ quest.
- Complete the ‘Ranching 102‘ quest.
- Visit the Royal Highlands.
- Complete the ‘Before The Dawn‘ quest.
The ‘Before The Dawn’ quest is easy to find if you start the official main story quests with ‘A Royal Welcome’. Otherwise you’ll need to explore the area to find a Dawnspur encased in Amber Echo to get the quest.
Raise Your Own Dawnspurs

Once you’ve met the prerequisites, and have received your very first Dawnspur (horse), you can purchase them at the Animal Ranch facilities. Interact with the cash register and Dawnspurs should be at, or near, the top of the list.
Each Dawnspur you purchase will cost 5,000 gold. When purchasing a Dawnspur, it will arrive as a baby and will appear in the Nursery Pen.
You’ll see a marker for any animals you have in the navigation bar at the top of your screen to help you locate all your animals. Interact with your new Dawnspur to give it a name.
You’ll be able to check its Abilities, Traits, and Status Effects. At the top of the interface will be the most important aspects: Happiness and Focus.
To improve both Happiness and Focus for your animals, you’ll need to pet and feed them according to their preferences. As your Dawnspur grows out of the baby stage, it will move to one of the other animal pens.
You can use the Animal Roster book to the right of the cash register at the main barn to see all your animals. If you want to place the animals in different pens, you can move them using the book.
Breeding Dawnspurs

Once you’ve unlocked the ability to purchase Dawnspurs from the cash register at the main Ranching Stable, you’ll also be able to start breeding your own. Dawnspurs that have grown beyond the baby stage can be bred until they’re too old.
You can use the Ranching cookies to help pass on traits you want, or make traits less likely to pass on to the offspring. You’ll be able to explore numerous combinations to get a Dawnspur that you’ll love.
You can also equip your favorite Dawnspur so that you can ride it when out and about in the Royal Highlands or other mount-friendly areas. You can even ride your Dawnspur around your housing plot if you want.
There’s a breeding stall called the Cozy Coop in the Nursery Pen at the Ranch area. Interact to see all your animals. If you select one that can’t be bred, it will not appear in one of the areas marked by a question mark, or the parent areas.
There is a cooldown timer once you breed animals. You can use a special type of cookie to remove the animal’s cooldown if you want to immediately try breeding the animal again.
Once you’ve encountered 30 different traits, you’ll also unlock the Akwinduu Thoroughbred horse variant. This one will cost 6,000 gold, although you will receive a voucher to redeem for a free one.
Redeem the voucher at the cash register to claim your free Akwinduu Thoroughbred. It will begin as a baby, so you can find it in the Nursery Pen once you redeem the voucher.
The Phoenixfire Dawnspur can be purchased in the in-game shop using real-world currency. You use real-world currency to purchase Palia Coins, which can then be redeemed at the shop for a variety of things. With all the options available, you’re sure to breed a number of fantastic Dawnspurs.
