When it comes to bringing friends together, Hello Kitty is a professional. She has a knack for accepting and encouraging everyone to be themselves and appreciate others.
My Melody has her work cut out for her during this birthday celebration. She wants to surprise Hello Kitty with a birthday party, and it’s going to be a bit more complicated and time-intensive than other parties, so you’ll want to get started right away.

What To Collect For Hello Kitty’s Birthday
To help Hello Kitty with her birthday celebration on Friendship Island, you’ll need to collect the following items:
- Pineapples
- Rubber
- Sand Dollars
As you collect the items listed above, you’ll have a chance to also receive Hello Kitty Decorating Kits. The decorating kits can be combined with 1 Flour to make a special Hello Kitty birthday cake.
How To Get The Hello Kitty Birthday Quest
To get Hello Kitty’s birthday quest, you’ll need to talk to My Melody. The quest will be called ‘Bows In The Attic‘.
You’ll need to head to the Spooky Swamp after your chat, and meet My Melody at the Haunted Mansion. Talk to her once you arrive.
Afterward, meet My Melody in the Dance Hall in the Gemstone Mountain area. Chat with My Melody once you’re inside the Dance Hall.
Meet My Melody outside her shop, ‘Small Gift, Big Smile’ back at Seaside Resort. Help My Melody clean out the attic in her shop.
Interact with the piles of stuff marked with blue exclamation points. When you’re done cleaning up the attic you can talk to My Melody.
This will complete the ‘Bows In The Attic’ quest. You’ll then have access to another birthday-themed quest, ‘A Fresh Coat of Paint’. You’ll need to wait for 2 days before you can proceed with the new quest.
A Fresh Coat Of Paint
After waiting 2 real-life days, you’ll be able to continue with Hello Kitty’s birthday celebration plans. You’ll need to talk to My Melody to begin the ‘A Fresh Coat Of Paint’ quest.
She should be in her shop, Small Gift, Big Smile. If you have other quests in-progress with her, you may need to complete them first.
My Melody is lacking some inspiration for her attic project. She wants you to talk to the following people on Friendship Island:
- Tuxedosam
- Pekkle
- Kuromi
Tuxedosam is the first person on the list, and you may find him enjoying the beach in Seaside Resort near the Plaza. Talk to him to get some inspiration for the attic.
You’ll need to take a selfie with Tuxedosam for My Melody. Talk to Tuxedosam after you take the photo.
Next, you’ll talk to Pekkle. He should be on the pond dock just south of the Gemstone Mountain fast-travel waypoint.
Talk to Pekkle to get some ideas for inspiration. Take another selfie with Pekkle at the dock. Talk to Pekkle once you’ve taken the photo.
To find Kuromi, head to Spooky Swamp. She should be waiting for you just south of the Fwishing Well.
Talk to Kuromi once you find her. Take a selfie with Kuromi near the maze. Talk to Kuromi once you’ve taken the picture.
Return to My Melody in her shop. Talk to her to show her the photos you took.
Meet My Melody in the attic. You’ll need to leave her shop, and head to the back of it. You should be able to see a staircase, which will let you enter the attic.
Enter the attic and walk around until My Melody gets a blue exclamation point over her head. Talk to My Melody for the next steps.
This will complete the ‘A Fresh Coat Of Paint‘ quest. You’ll need to wait for 2 more real-life days for the next quest, ‘Balloons and Bluffs’.
Balloons And Bluffs
To begin the ‘Balloons And Bluffs’ quest, talk to My Melody. She should be in her shop, as usual.
Head back to the attic to see the progress My Melody has made with the decorations. Make sure to walk about halfway into the room so that My Melody will get a blue exclamation point above her head for the next part of the quest.
Talk to My Melody to find out what still needs to be done. Interact with areas in the attic with a blue exclamation point to place balloons.
You’ll need to visit the corners of the attic to place all the balloons. You’ll interact 3 times total, then talk to My Melody when you’re finished with the task.
You’ll then need to try and distract Hello Kitty while My Melody prepares some birthday treats at the café. Talk to Hello Kitty to distract her.
She’ll need you to follow her to the beach for a discussion she wants to have. Talk to her again once you reach the spot at the beach.
You’ll need to make a Blank Book, then take pictures of the following residents of Friendship Island:
- Badtz-Maru
- Keroppi
- Pompompurin
If you happen to already have a Blank Book in your inventory, you won’t need to make one. If you need to craft one, you’ll need the following:
- 3 Paper
Or
- 3 Lotus Blossoms
Use the gift function to give the Blank Book to Hello Kitty. She’ll be following you around while you complete this portion of the quest.
Next, locate the necessary characters and take selfies with them. Locations should be marked on the map with the usual character-head icons.
Characters may be in different places than normal, so be sure to check the map for guidance. Talk to Hello Kitty once all selfies have been taken.
Return to the attic in My Melody’s shop. You may need to walk around in the attic for a moment before My Melody appears.
Take a picture of the attic with all the decorations completed. Talk to My Melody. This will complete the ‘Balloons And Bluffs’ quest. You’ll need to wait 2 more real-life days for the ‘Happy Returns’ birthday quest.
Happy Returns
To officially start the ‘Happy Returns’ quest after waiting 2 real-life days, talk to My Melody. She should be in her normal spot, but you can check the map for her head-icon to find her.
Head outside and up the stairs at the back of My Melody’s shop to reach the attic. Talk to Pekkle, who should have a blue exclamation point above his head.
After the conversation you’ll receive a Hello Kitty Party Favor, and the Hello Kitty Birthday Balloon Crafting Plans. Talk to Hello Kitty when you’re done celebrating her birthday.
The Hello Kitty Birthday Balloons take 25 Rubber, 5 Iron, and 15 Tofu to craft. The cake, balloons, and party favor can be placed in cabins as decorations.
The special birthday cake can be gifted. You’ll receive a special dialogue if you give Hello Kitty her special cake during her birthday event.
