One thing you can count on with Oogie Boogie is that he won’t play fair. He’s taunting you with some trickery in Disney Dreamlight Valley with this quest.
Work with some other villagers to try and change your luck. Perhaps you can turn the tables on Oogie Boogie with enough help.

Prerequisites For ‘The Ghost In The Portrait’ Quest
To get the ‘The Ghost In The Portrait’ quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll need to check your mail. You should look for a mail message titled ‘Let’s have a chat‘.
Claim the Lucky Wheel Ticket that comes with the message. You’ll receive the quest once you claim it.
Make sure you’ve already done the following:
- Complete the ‘A Halloween Invasion‘ quest.
- Complete ‘The Oogie Boogie Contract‘ quest.
Once you’ve done the prerequisites above, you should have the ‘Let’s have a chat’ mail message.
Enter Oogie Boogie’s Mirror Lair
Once you’ve claimed the Lucky Wheel Ticket from the ‘Let’s have a chat’ mail message, you’ll need to go back to the Mirror Lair using the green mirror in Scrooge’s shop. There is a painting sitting on the floor near the Lucky Wheel.
Interact with the painting to inspect it. You’ll probably need to be to the right of the picture to be able to interact with it.
When you interact with the picture, a special puzzle orb will spawn. Interact with the puzzle memory orb to solve the puzzle.
This puzzle is very monochromatic, but there are puzzle outlines to show you where the pieces should go based on shape. It should be fairly easy to solve.
Puzzle Memory Orb Solution
Talk to Oogie Boogie after you solve the puzzle memory orb. Talk to Scrooge McDuck about the Haunted Portrait and Oogie Boogie’s games.
Place the Plain Gift Box Scrooge gives you at the bottom of the right-hand staircase in the Mirror Lair. There will be a sparkling area on the table near the staircase.
Interact with the sparkling zone to place the Plain Gift Box. Use your Royal Pickaxe on the Lucky Wheel to break it. Pick up all the items that drop from the Lucky Wheel.
You should have Ghostly Paint Thinner in a green bottle in your inventory. Use it from your inventory to apply it to your Royal Watering Can.
Use the Royal Watering Can on the Haunted Portrait to free Zero. Talk to Oogie Boogie about the situation.
You’ll need to find the correct Haunted Portrait and water it to free Zero. Talk to Merlin after watering the painting.
Haunted Portrait Solution Hint
One painting is different from the others. Make sure to check upstairs and downstairs in the Mirror Lair.
Interact with 5 Zero drawings in the Mirror Lair, and collect 5 Zero Essences. Once you’ve done those tasks, use the Crafting Station in the Mirror Lair.
The Oogie Boogie shortcut icon will take you to a crafting recipe for Real Ghostly Paint Thinner. Once you have the new Real Ghostly Paint Thinner, use it from your inventory to apply it to your Royal Watering Can.
Water the correct Haunted Portrait again. Talk to Oogie Boogie about the situation with Zero. This will complete the quest, and automatically give you the next one called ‘Rescue Mission‘.
