Palia is an online cozy MMO game with a certain charm. You’ll gather resources, farm, socialize, decorate your home, and even do some cooking. Sometimes you’ll also be gathering critters or resources for others, and for npcs.
The Vampire Crab can be as elusive to gather as the name implies, and it feels like everyone wants one during the same week. Here’s what you need to know to find one of these mysterious little crabs.
Where To Find Vampire Crabs
Vampire Crabs can be found in the Flooded Fortress area of Bahari Bay. They are sometimes on the sandy shoreline or in the watery areas. One of the fastest ways to get to the Flooded Fortress is to leave from your home plot through the North exit to Bahari Bay. You’ll arrive quite close to the Flooded Fortress.
Nighttime (night or evening) is the only time you’ll see these crabs. The best time to catch these is between midnight and 3am in-game time. They are also relatively skittish, so creeping up on them can be a challenge. They can also be difficult to distinguish from Bahari Crabs when seen from the front, especially at night.
Your best bet to finding a Vampire Crab is to follow the shoreline, which also gives you some visibility of watery areas.
How To Tell If It’s a Vampire Crab
Vampire Crabs are darker in color than Bahari Crabs. This can be difficult to tell from the front, especially at night. It’s easier if you find a Vampire Crab near a Bahari Crab for a better comparison.
The shell of the Vampire Crab is what really lets you know you have the right crab. It’s a deep red, with gold ‘v’-shaped markings on it’s back. There aren’t usually that many at night, you’ll be lucky to run into more than 2.
If others are hunting Vampire Crabs nearby, leave your caught crab for a little while so other players can hit it with their smoke bombs. That way, you can all loot it to receive a crab.
This helps everyone get what they need, and you’ll spend less time each night trying to catch one. It’s a win-win for everyone. Don’t leave it too long though, or it will despawn.
How To Catch Vampire Crabs
To catch a Vampire Crab, you’ll use your bug-catching skill and items. There are a few things you can do to improve your odds of catching a Vampire Crab:
- Use a Sneaky Smoke Bomb
- Use a Smoke Candle
Both of these items will make it easier to approach crabs so you can find out if it’s the Vampire Crab you need or just another Bahari Crab.
You can also use a Buzzy Jar to help guide you to individual Vampire Crab locations when you’re in the Flooded Fortress. If you see someone smoke-bombing a Vampire Crab, make sure to hit it with your own smoke bomb as well. You’ll both get to loot, even if you’re not in a party.
