Palia Quest Guide: Secret Depths

Palia is full of history, and you get to help Einar figure out what’s going on with a recent request for help from an unknown galdur. Complete the challenge of the Temple of the Roots to learn more about the galdur’s history.

Prerequisites For The ‘Secret Depths’ Quest

Palia completed quests showing a number of quests like 'Keeper of Roots'. These quests need to be completed before you can unlock the 'Secret Depths' quest.

You’ll need to complete a number of quests in order to unlock the ‘Secret Depths’ quest. Complete the following:

  • Keeper of Flames
  • Keeper of Waves
  • Keeper of Gales
  • Keeper of Roots
  • Vault of the Gales
  • Eye of the Storm

You can check the status of the ‘Secret Depths’ quest by checking the ‘Quests’ section of the main menu.

Talk To Hekla Inside The Temple Of Roots

After you chat with Einar, he’ll mark your map with the next location to visit. Hekla is also interested to know more about the galdur and will meet you at the location.

You’ll need to start by going back to Bahari Bay. The search area is just between Flooded Steps and Proudhorn Pass to the north.

When you’ve reached the Temple of The Roots, talk to Hekla. The door to the Temple of The Roots is attuned to galdur rather than humans. Hekla will open the door for you.

The next thing you need to do is find a way out of the first chamber. Head to the broken wall in the chamber and use your pickaxe to break through it.

The quest objective will update to ‘Explore the Temple of Roots‘. If you travel to the left of the entrance, you’ll encounter a set of climbing ladders and platforms that will allow you to descend.

There will be a tablet you can read on one of the platforms. If you decide to use your glider to descend rather than climbing, just keep an eye out for tablets.

At the bottom of the temple, you’ll see what appears to be a series of flowgates. Interact with one to activate it. Einar and Hekla will move to your location.

There’s a large copper pipe near Hekla’s new location. If you approach it, there will be another reading tablet laying inside.

At the opposite end of the room from where Hekla and Einar are, is another large pipe which can be entered. If you follow the pipe, you’ll enter a large cavern.

There will be a pipe on the right which doesn’t go anywhere, but which houses a treasure chest. Proceed through the main area.

There’s an opening on the left side of the hallway, with some short climbing vines. You can enter the opening to discover another reading tablet.

Continue in the cavern, and use the floating platforms to cross to the opposite side of the room where there appears to be a door.

Once you reach the other side, you’ll notice a flowgate activates. The quest objective will also change to tell you to find a way to open the door.

There’s a small automaton on the left side of the door. Interact with it to find out more about opening the door.

Talk to Einar and Hekla after talking to the automaton. Hekla will be able to open the door, and you should proceed into the next section.

The hallway you pass through has another reading tablet. It will tell you more about the Gardener.

Continue into the next room and pass the sparkling automaton. Climb up the metallic ladder into the adjoining room. You’ll need to use the floating platforms to cross to the door.

There are sparkling purple buttons on each side of the door. You’ll need to press both to open the door.

If you fall, land on the rocky path patch atop the copper pipes. There will be climbing vines to help you get back up to the proper jumping-off point to try again.

Enter the door once it opens, and use your pickaxe to break the crumbling wall. Proceed through the hall, and break the next crumbling wall.

You’ll enter a small room with shallow water covering the floor. There’ll be a metallic ladder on one side of the room. Climb the ladder to continue.

Use the floating platforms to reach the other side of the room. The platform will travel in an “L” shape.

You’ll also need to beware of laser beams as the platform travels. Time your jump properly so you can land back on the platform while avoiding the lasers.

Break the next crumbling wall. Activate the flowstone gate. This gate will take you back to the main hub if you need a break.

To continue, travel on the metallic platform to the left. There’ll be a chest underneath that metallic platform.

Jump down to the large platform with an almost fully-formed galdur sitting on it. Cross the platform and use the climbing vines to reach the next level.

Once you climb up the vines, to the right you’ll have another reading tablet to investigate. Read it, then proceed to the left.

Glide across a small gap to follow the metallic path. You’ll then arrive at numerous rows of floating platforms. Use the platforms to get to the metallic ladders on either side of the next doorway.

When you get to the doorway, break the crumbling rocks. You’ll see ornamental vases on the left and right. The vase on the left will have a reading tablet.

Continue and activate the flowstone gate to the hub. Keep going into the balcony area. Hekla and Einar will move to this location.

Talk to Hekla. Press buttons on the control panel to try and disrupt the Gardener’s work.

Talk to Einar to see how he’s doing. Consult Hekla about what to try next. Chat with the Gardener’s core at the command table.

Discuss the situation with Hekla. Afterward talk to Einar to check his progress. You can use the nearby flowstone gate to return to the hub.

Next, use the flowstone gate which takes you back to the entrance. Hekla and Einar will meet you back at the entrance. Talk to Hekla.

Solve the sliding puzzle in the new room unlocked by Hekla. You’ll encounter two reading tablets in the sliding puzzle room.

Once you’ve solved the sliding puzzle, there’ll be a small cutscene and then you should talk to Einar. You’ll find him at the vault. This begins the quest ‘Vault of the Roots‘.
