There are many charming things about Rune Factory 5, but there’s also a fair amount of frustration when you’re trying to figure out how to do certain things. The thing we wanted to tackle today was how to make better farm tools and weapons.
Did you know that better farm tools have an impact on the quality outcome of your crops? Better weapons should also ideally have a better outcome during fights. Your skill level still matters with the weapons, sorry.
What You Need For Upgrading Tools And Weapons

Before you can really even think of upgrading any of your tools and weapons, you’ll need to do a few things. The most important thing you’ll need is a license for a forge.
In order to get a license, you’ll need to acquire enough SEED points to afford the license. To get a license you’ll need to issue a Directive with Eliza and pass a test showing you have basic knowledge to use whatever item you’re trying to obtain.
Here’s what you’ll need to get started with upgrading tools and weapons:
- Have at least 200 SEED points (license cost).
- Receive the forge crafting tutorial at the True Strike Smithy.
- Pass the forge license test.
- Purchase the forge from Studio Palmo (3,000 gold, 25 material stone, 30 lumber).
| If Eliza doesn’t have a directive to get a forge license and you’ve already done the forge crafting tutorial, check Studio Palmo. You may have already obtained the license. The forge will only be available to purchase if you already obtained the license. |
How To Upgrade Tools Or Weapons

Once you have your forge set up in your room, you can interact with it to start the process of upgrading. You can also craft weapons and farm tools from scratch, but for the purposes of this guide we’re just covering upgrading.
You’ll select the option to upgrade a weapon. This will allow you to upgrade any weapon or farm tool.
If the tool or weapon you want to upgrade is one you have equipped, you’ll need to move it to your bag. Once it’s in your bag, or storage, you can access it to work on the upgrade.
You’ll place the farm tool or weapon you want to upgrade in the top right spot that’s circled in the image.

You can choose from a number of ingredients to place in the left spot. You can see what the results will be by checking the finished product spot. It will prefill with the result you’ll obtain if your forging is successful.
Ingredients you might try using could be iron ore, monster parts, cloth, or other items to get specific benefits. In the upgrade screen, an item will show a section showing “Upgrade” followed by benefits provided by that ingredient.
Some or all of those benefits will transfer to the item you’re upgrading. You may be able to add 2 attack power, or defense, for example.
You’ll also see the RP cost underneath the result spot. Right next to the cost it will show you how much RP you have. The main number will be red if you don’t have enough RP.
If you’re missing RP, whatever the red number shows will instead come out of your HP. Be careful since you could potentially lose quite a bit of health if you’re not paying attention.
Luckily, if the RP is too much in the red, you’ll receive a warning and the process won’t complete.

If you want to restore some RP, you can eat certain foods to fill your RP bar. You can either cook some yourself if you have the cooking stations needed, or you can purchase food from the restaurant.
Upgrading will increase the level of your farm tools and weapons, in addition to giving it better stats from your upgrade ingredients. If you happened to buy or craft multiple of the same item, such as a claymore, you can use the extra claymore as an upgrade ingredient as well.
If you use additional tools and weapons as upgrade materials, the base stats will not change. The upgrade will, however, usually improve the level of the tool or weapon being upgraded.
If you’re trying to improve stats, it’s best to use ingredients that will give you something meaningful such as poison resistance, critical rate increase, or basic attack and defense stats.
